Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the grand opening of a new Recovery Community and Outreach Center in the Bronx. The Center, which will be operated by Odyssey House, will offer free services and support for people and their affected families in recovery from substance use disorders. The Center, the first of its kind in the Bronx, is supported by a $1.75 million award from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.

“This new recovery center is vital to breaking the cycle of addiction and helping Bronx residents in need,” Governor Cuomo said. “We have taken bold action to confront the opioid epidemic in this state, and with this recovery center we are one step closer to a stronger and healthier New York for all.”

“Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, New York has taken bold and aggressive action to tackle the substance abuse crisis head-on, and we know that part of that battle is ensuring necessary supports are available to those recovering from addiction,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, Co-Chair of the Governor’s Task Force to Combat Heroin and Opioid Addiction, who attended today’s announcement. “The new Odyssey House Recovery Center in the Bronx will be an invaluable resource to individuals and families as they start down the road to recovery, helping them connect with the services they need and providing peer support. With this opening, we now have a recovery center in every borough of New York.”

Odyssey House Recovery Center will provide a wide range of support including recovery enhancement, recovery skill-building, computer education, employment readiness programs, and wellness classes. Additionally, the network of support will include gender-specific and LGBTQ recovery support groups as well as recovery peers and volunteers who help those in recovery access services and other resources within the community.

The Odyssey House Recovery Center also offers community outreach programs. One of their ongoing initiatives is naloxone training, which is offered during community events and on-site at the center.

Recovery centers are part of the Governor’s multi-prong approach to addressing substance use disorders in New York State. They promote long-term recovery by providing professional staff, peers, and volunteers to engage and support people in their recovery.

“By enabling us to expand our supports for people in recovery, Governor Cuomo has shown his commitment to making New York State a leader in the fight against addiction,” OASAS Commissioner Arlene González-Sánchez said. “With this recovery center and others like it, we are helping more New Yorkers receive the care they need to live healthy, substance-free lives.”

Assemblyman Victor Pichardo said, “Substance abuse fractures our communities, plain and simple. OASAS’s opening of a new Recovery Community and Outreach Center is a community-based solution to address this very real problem here in the Bronx. I’m confident the center will help more people get access to the services they need to break free from the cycle of addiction.”

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said, “It takes a village to combat substance misuse. The Recovery Community and Outreach Center will be a vital resource to the members of our community. The road to recovery is a long one, and we must make sure we spread the word to ensure that residents know where they can get support. I’d like to thank Governor Cuomo and OASAS for their efforts on this important issue.”

The Odyssey House Recovery Center is located inside the Davidson Community Center in the Bronx, at 2038 Davidson Avenue. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., with weekend hours for individual sessions and support meetings.
