What does it mean to own your recovery?

In early September, members of the Odyssey House Art Project began work on a banner to commemorate Recovery Month. They chose “Recovery – We Own It!” as their theme.

Chad Porter, who runs the art studio at our George Rosenfeld Center for Recovery on Wards Island, challenged the artists to define what it means to own your recovery. As they worked on the banner, they realized it meant something different to each of them, but there was an underlying concept they all agreed on:

“You have to work your recovery, you have to have a plan, and you have to be consistent in owning your recovery. It’s not something you do one day and take a day off. It’s 24/7, activating your new goals and your new path.”
