ADOLESCENT BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA)

The A-CRA model identifies pro-social behaviors and seeks to enhance those behaviors. The A-CRA model uses operant techniques and skills training activities to teach individuals new ways of handling life’s problems without drugs. Involving parents and caregivers in the process, the A-CRA model is highly structured with well-specified treatment goals, strategies to reach goals, and training in problem-solving skills. It employs homework and role play to cultivate skills development in adolescents.

Functional Family Therapy (FFT)

FFT is a family intervention methodology which aims to change the maladaptive behaviors of high-risk youth and families by focusing on associated clinical issues, such as drug use/abuse, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and other behavior problems, including violence, criminal activity, gang affiliation, school problems, etc. Effective in addressing and ameliorating parent-child/family conflict issues, FFT views the family as the primary client, and consequently, the primary focus of assessment and intervention.

Assertive Continuing Care (ACC) Protocol

The ACC protocol is delivered via home visits and combines elements of the A-CRA model with case management. Where A-CRA focuses on social learning (or re-learning), problem-solving and reinforcement, the case management portion of ACC focuses on linking the adolescent to needed services and activities, advocacy, and support in the event of a relapse.
