Nathalia Fernandez is an American politician serving as a Democratic member of the New York State Senate representing the 34th Senate District. She has worked with all sectors of government and community stakeholders to advance projects and services that benefit our shared constituents.
Senator Fernandez’s career in government began in 2012 when she volunteered for the Mark Gjonaj for Assembly campaign, becoming a vital asset to its daily operations and volunteer coordination. When Mark Gjonaj was elected Assemblyman, Senator Fernandez joined his staff as Executive Coordinator for the 80th Assembly district office. She soon became the driving force of the office, maintaining responsibility for daily office operations, constituent services, and event organization, and was later promoted to Chief of Staff. In 2018, she was elected to the New York State Assembly.
While representing the 80th Assembly district, Senator Fernandez led numerous projects and initiatives. Under her direction, the Assembly office provided internships and multiple volunteer opportunities to high school and college students, organized events and health care services for seniors, and planned numerous community events.
In early 2017, Senator Fernandez joined the Executive Chamber in the highest level of state government to take on the role of Bronx Regional Representative for Governor Andrew Cuomo. In addition to her numerous responsibilities, Nathalia educated the borough on the availability of the Excelsior Scholarship and the Paid Family Leave program.
