August’s wellness champion is…

The last Wednesday of each month, we recognize an Odyssey House employee for their positive wellness efforts. This person is working on their wellness goals and along the way, they are inspiring others around them. This employee is the Wellness Wednesday Champion.

Congratulations to this month’s Wellness Wednesday Champion, Ricky Guzman!

Ricky is full of energy! He’s always on the move in his maintenance role at Odyssey House. He’s also a student of MMA (mixed martial arts), putting in training hours after work and on weekends. He’s often encouraging staff and clients to be more active. Thanks, Ricky!

Wellness Champion Q & A with Ricky Guzman, August 2019

  • Odyssey House site/position: Harbor, Maintenance
  • What’s your favorite food? I don’t know why, but I like kale. I eat it like candy.
  • What’s your favorite way to stay fit? I train martial arts 5-6 days/week. I also do calisthenics and work out with resistance bands, gymnastics rings, and wrist weights. I like to work out outdoors whenever I can.
  • Any words of wisdom for other OH employees looking to improve their health? Moderation is key. Keep a well-balanced diet, exercise at least 4 days/week (doing what you love) and push yourself to be a little better each day. You vs. you. Stay humble. Respect the janitor like you respect the CEO.

Do you want to nominate an employee who simply motivates you to live healthier? Please email tmardigan@odysseyhousenyc.org with the employee’s name and a few sentences as to why they deserve to be a Wellness Wednesday Champion.
